Did you know that Vertigo is a condition that may be treated by a Physical Therapist?
Symptoms may include:
Dizziness
Balance Problems
Gait Disturbance
Lightheadedness
Disorientation
The human balance system depends on information that the brain receives from the
eyes, the muscles & joints of the body and the inner ear.
If the inner ear is damaged, the brain may receive incorrect information.
The result may be dizziness or balance problems.
WHICH PATIENT’S NEED
PHYSICAL THERAPY?
Patients who do not demonstrate a spontaneous resolution of symptoms such as
dizziness and disequilibrium may benefit from therapy.
Patients with unresolved inner ear disorders may significantly improve
their symptoms following vestibular rehabilitation.
IS A PHYSICIANS REFERRAL
NEEDED FOR THERAPY?
There are many causes of dizziness, not all the result of vestibular deficits.
It is important that patients entering into a therapy program have a
confirmed diagnosis of vestibular pathology.
Most referrals come from an Otolaryngologist (ENT) or a Neurologist.
A Primary Care Physician may refer Physical Therapy intervention as well.
